The Best Water Treatment in Pomona

With this combination of water resources, Pomona water quality often faces our share of water filtration and treatment issues:

Pomona, California’s water comes from three sources, ground, surface, and imported water.

Pomona’s groundwater comes from the Chino Basin and Six Basins aquifers. Its surface water comes from San Antonio Canyon and is treated at the city’s Pedley Filtration Plant in Claremont. Pomona also receives imported water from Three Valleys Municipal Water District via the State Water Project, along with water treated at the Metropolitan Water District’s Weymouth plant in La Verne.

Residents of Pomona may experience issues with hard water, as Pomona’s local groundwater averages 229 ppm, or roughly 13 grains per gallon.

Is Pomona Tap Water Safe To Drink?

According to the City of Pomona’s most recent water quality report, the city treats its supply so the water delivered to customers meets all drinking water standards. The report notes that some local groundwater sources had hexavalent chromium levels that may exceed California’s 10 ppb limit; local groundwater averaged 4.8 ppb (range non-detect to 13 ppb). PFOA and PFOS averaged non-detect, though the city took one well offline in June 2025 after its levels exceeded new federal limits that take effect in 2029.

Separately, the Environmental Working Group, which compares utility data against its own health guidelines (stricter than legal limits), reports 18 contaminants in Pomona tap water above EWG’s guidelines, including chromium-6, haloacetic acids (HAA5), TTHMs, nitrate and uranium.
